The Head and Heart of Decision Making

Abstract: As a young decision professional, I used to think it was all about finding "the best” answer. As I gained experience, I painfully learned that getting a good decision also required motivating people to want to move in a new direction.
The version of Decision Quality from the 80’s that I was taught has a huge blind spot, and I have developed a Decision Quality Version 2.0 that encompasses both the Head – finding a good answer – and the Heart – motivating strong action. I’ve found that it helps me engineer ways through decision problems that result in both better answers and deeper commitment to action.
