ELLEN COOPERSMITH
Brief Biography
Ellen Coopersmith has a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, and is the Founder and President of Decision Frameworks, an international consulting, training and software practice focused on building and supporting decision quality capability around the world. Prior to forming Decision Frameworks in 1999, Ms. Coopersmith worked at Conoco, Inc. 16 years, the last five of which, as the director of Decision & Risk Analysis. She is a board certified Decision Analysis Fellow, a Professional Engineer, a published speaker on decision making and decision quality implementation and has headed up a global practice of decision analysis for 22 years.
JIM DRISCOLL
Brief Biography
Jim Driscoll leads the Decision Quality Program Office at Intel. Since joining the company in 1999, Jim has held various roles of increasing responsibility; he embarked on his current full-time mission to improve decision-making at Intel in mid-2012. As head of Intel’s DQ Program Office, Jim and his team act as the corporate-wide owners, teachers, and lead practitioners of DQ. They work with executives and their staff to tackle complex, strategic decisions across every facet of the company’s operations. Over the years, Jim and his team have taught over 1500 Intel employees the basics of DQ, effective facilitation, and world-class Decision Analysis. For the past year, Jim has served on SDP’s Board of Directors where he is an active member of the Strategy Sub-Committee. He has twice served on the Panel of Examiners for the Raiffa-Howard Award and has been an invited speaker at several Fortune 500 companies and universities including Stanford University’s Center for Professional Development (SCPD) and the University of Washington, Foster School of Business. Jim holds a certificate in Strategic Decisions and Risk Management from SCPD. A life-long resident of Oregon, Jim lives in the beautiful Portland-metropolitan area with his wife and three young children.

TERRY KARNER
Brief Biography
Terrence Karner is a Manager with Deloitte and currently is serving as Deloitte’s U.S. Telecom Sector Specialist. He has over 17 years of industry experience in wireless telecom and strategic finance specializing in business valuation, decision analysis, corporate strategy and scenario planning. Over the last ten years, he has been focused on deploying leading quantitative and qualitative methods in strategic decision-making, portfolio analysis and scenario planning to help decision makers optimize their major capital investment decisions under uncertainty. He is currently serving as pro-bono Chairman of the Outreach Council within the Society of Decision Professionals. Terrence was recently appointed to a two year term in which he advises Deloitte’s Vice Chairman of Telecom on wireless matters in the United States.
HENK KRIJNEN
Brief Biography
After completion of a career of 35 years with Shell in the fall of 2015, Henk Krijnen has started his own consultancy named NavIncerta ('navigating uncertainty') with a main focus on online training in the space of decision and uncertainty analysis. During his last five years in Shell, Henk worked as a senior economist in the corporate strategy and planning department and was part of the well-known scenario team. He was operating at the intersection of broader business environment topics and investment decision analysis. In the role he developed a number of new approaches to risk and uncertainty analysis which have been implemented on a company wide basis. Before that, he held management roles in Shell's project economics function. Earlier in his career he held positions in Shell in the geomatics domain, which took him to assignments in Indonesia, Thailand, the United States and the Netherlands. Henk graduated with an MSc in geodetic engineering at the Technical University of Delft in 1979. He currently lives in the Netherlands and is a leading member of the European Decision Professionals Network. Henk is married and has two sons.

Board Members

ELAYNE KO
Brief Biography
Elayne Ko currently holds a Director position at the Portfolio and Decision Analysis (PDA) group within Pfizer, Inc. She has over 15 years of experience in applying decision analysis to investment decision-making under uncertainties. Her focus is primarily within the pharmaceutical industry; in particular, drug research and development decisions, long-term planning, and disease area/portfolio prioritization. She works with both the R&D teams and senior management making funding decisions. Elayne has worked - in the consulting and corporate settings - across several industries including healthcare information technology, oil & gas, and mining. 
Prior to Pfizer, Elayne held positions as Portfolio Manager at Siemens Health Services Strategy Group, Manager at Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP, and Senior Consultant within the Applied Decision Analysis group of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Elayne obtained a BSc in Manageement Sciences and MSc in Decision Sciences from The London School of Economics.
WILLIAM LEAF-HERRMANN
Brief Biography
Dr. Leaf-Herrmann, a Senior Principal at IMS Consulting Group, has over 20 years of experience as a business strategist in the life sciences, automotive, chemical, and financial services industries and specializes in strategy development and portfolio management for clients in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. With expertise spanning R&D and commercial strategy development, Dr. Leaf-Herrmann has consulted on both corporate and product-level strategy. Dr. Leaf-Herrmann brings significant global experience, having led projects in China, India, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, in addition to North America and Europe. 
Dr. Leaf-Herrmann learned the science and practice of decision analysis through formal courses and client engagements as a consultant with Strategic Decisions Group. He has taught the principles and application of DA through courses and coaching, and has assisted multiple pharmaceutical organizations establish and grow internal decision support teams. Prior to joining IMS Consulting Group, Dr. Leaf-Herrmann was a partner in the Life Sciences Practice of Strategic Decisions Group. He is a Fellow in the Society of Decision Professionals and served as Secretary from 2010-2013 and as a Board Member from 2014-2015. Dr. Leaf-Herrmann holds a Ph.D. and A.M., physics from Harvard University, a Certificate of Post-Graduate Study, University of Cambridge (Churchill Scholar) and a B.S., in physics and applied mathematics from Purdue University.

SOMIK RAHA
Brief Biography
Somik Raha holds a Ph.D. in Decision Analysis from Stanford University with a dissertation titled "Achieving Clarity on Value." He is currently Product Manager and Associate at Menlo Park-based SmartOrg, Inc., building products to embed Decision Analysis into business work processes. He is deeply interested in the intersection of core values and decision-making.
TYLER LUDLOW
Brief Biography
I’m a husband, father of nine amazing children, and enjoy helping people make better decisions. I’ve practiced DA in the consumer goods (Unilever), pharmaceutical (Lilly), and parental industries. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Applied Math & Psychology, another in Recreation and Business Administration, an MBA, and then completed the Stanford certificate in Strategic Decisions and Risk Management. I’ve been a member of INFORMS and DAS for years, and joined SDP at its inception. I am currently serving the society as the Chair of the Web Strategy & Solutions Council and co-chair of the Individual Decisions Interest Group.
JONATHAN MAUER
Brief Biography
Before learning decision analysis, Jon practiced pharmacy in the Indian Health Service (Navajo) and in Beth Israel Medical Center. He earned his MBA and joined Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Information Management staff in 1998 where he developed a strong interest in Decision Analysis (DA). In 1999, Jon embraced DA when the capability was piloted at Bristol-Myers Squibb. He joined the Decision Analysis & Portfolio Management department and helped develop and embed the capabilities over the next decade. Jon joined Pfizer’s Portfolio and Decision Analysis staff in 2010 and led the decision-education program to integrate new colleagues following Pfizer’s acquisition of Wyeth. Later, Jon expanded the use of DA to support public policy and inform medical decision-making. Jon has a B.A. in Biology from the University of Colorado - Boulder, and a B.S. in Pharmacy and an M.B.A. from St. John’s University - New York.
AMY STRANIERI
Brief Biography
Amy Stranieri received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Willamette University and her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Oregon State University. She has spent over twenty years working with youth and families. Currently, Amy is the Counseling Department Head at Thurston High School where she has worked for the past 14 year. In the fall of 2010, Amy completed the Stanford University Strategic Decision and Risk Management Certificate Program: Decision Quality for Educators and Decision Quality for Counselors. After completing the program and working closely with the Decision Education Foundation, Amy has worked to incorporate Decision Quality into the thinking at Thurston High School by infusing Decision Quality in decision making into the counseling department and the school at large, organizing the Strong Start Program for incoming freshmen, starting a Decision Understanding Club for all students, and this year designing and teaching a College and Career Readiness Course for Seniors and Juniors with Decision Quality at the foundation. Last year she became part of SDP and was a presenter with Frank Koch at the 2015 DAAG Conference in Huntington Beach, CA. Amy was selected as the 2015 Decision Educator of the Year by DEF.
JENNIFER HARRINGTON
Brief Biography
Jennifer joined Intel in 2008 and has held a variety of finance positions supporting the PC Client Group, Sales and Marketing Group, and Platform Validation Engineering. She currently is part of Intel’s Decision Quality Program Office, a team of decision professionals who assist executives from across Intel in addressing their most significant strategic challenges. In addition to leading internal consulting engagements across many of Intel’s business organizations, Jennifer also instructs and coaches employees on building capabilities in decision-making and decision analysis. She is a member of the Society for Decision Professionals and involved with Intel’s OR WIN, NW Women’s Leadership Council, and Junior Achievement. Jennifer holds a certificate from Stanford’s Strategic Decision Risk Management Program as well as an MBA in Finance and Corporate Accounting from Michigan State University and a BA in Economics from the University of Michigan. She currently lives in Tigard, Oregon with her husband, two young children, and Newman the Jack Russell Terrier.
LAURA KEATING
Brief Biography
Laura Keating is an enthusiastic decision professional with a love for nature. Her skill set sits at the intersection of environmental conservation and Decision Quality, and she is passionate about bringing the two disciplines together. She has several years of consulting experience, first as an environmental planner and wildlife biologist with TERA Environmental Consultants/CH2M Hill (2007-2015) and more recently as an associate consultant with Strategic Decisions Group (2015-2017). Ms. Keating will soon be transitioning roles to work with the conservation research group at the Calgary Zoo, where she will help develop effective conservation strategies for endangered species. She holds a B.Sc. Honors in Environmental Science and Biology from Queen’s University and a M.Sc. in Mathematical Modeling and Scientific Computing from the University of Oxford.
LESLIE LIPPARD
Brief Biography
Leslie Lippard is an Associate Director with Genentech’s Research and Early Development Portfolio and Pipeline Planning Group. Since joining Genentech in 2014, she has split her time between working on product development strategy and organizational change. Prior to joining Genentech, she was an entrepreneur (Codornices Consulting, SageSpring Partners), a market researcher (AlphaDetail, now Quintiles), a strategy consultant (SDG) and an Engineer (Xerox, Spectra Physics). She has a BS in Physics from Caltech and an MBA from the University of Oregon. She has a deep commitment to community service, and currently serves on the board of 2 other community organizations: The HBA (Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association) and PAWMA (the Pacific Association of Women Martial Artists). When she is not in the office or on the phone, she can be found running, teaching kid’s judo or keeping bees on her roof.
