SDP & DAS Joint Webinar
Featuring Mark P. Healey - University of Manchester, UK
Abstract: The strategic decisions that business leaders make today will shape the innovations, economies, and societies we all live with tomorrow. And yet environmental shocks, geopolitical turbulence, and technological disruptions have made it more difficult than ever to make good strategic decisions. In this talk, I will reflect on advances over the past fifteen years in understanding what makes strategic decisions unique and how managers can make better ones. Key advances in research include greater appreciation of how organizational context, framing and mental representations, and emotional factors shape strategic decisions. In the world of practice, executives face challenges of collective decision making, harnessing digital technologies, and dealing with the strains of external disruptions. An interest in tools and techniques for aiding strategic decision making unites researchers and practitioners. I will conclude by outlining critical questions for the future of strategic decision making.
