    Hello!

I just became a member of SDP and I'm located in Calgary. I'm interested to find out if this community ever gets together for events, or what the best way to engage with the Calgary local chapter would be? I am new to the society and unfamiliar with the content. I learned of it through an old professor in Adelaide Australia who is now a prolific contributor to SDP, Prof Steve Begg.

Interested in any thoughts or recommendations on where to start with getting involved.

    thanks

    Anthony

    Hi Anthony and Hsiu yan,

The local SDP Calgary chapter has seen some ups and downs ever since Covid. I plan to meet in the next couple weeks with the other organizers and agree how we move forward to reinvigorate the chapter activity. Let me know if you are hoping for anything in particular. Presentations? Face-to-face meetings or webinars? Etc. Thanks

    Kent

    Thanks Kent,

I think there are a couple of things I'd like to better understand. First is the breadth and depth of academic content that the society is based around. I know there are a lot of disparate applications for applying various decision theory techniques, but I'm wondering if there is a sort of "101" level starting point that applies very broadly.

I have studied things like cognitive heuristics and bias (anchoring/overconfidence, etc) at university, and I'm looking to refresh on what the basics are now that the SDP turns to as fundamental knowledge for members.

Also I'd like the opportunity to meet with other folks in person if there's an appetite to do that, perhaps later in the Fall this year. Summer is a tricky time with vacations, etc. It would be a great opportunity to learn how other people engage with this material, and how our industries in Calgary can champion best practices for decision making.

    thanks

    Anthony
