Chapter December 2020 Meeting Two Sides of a Coin - The Science and the Human in the Loop A conversation where both the so-called soft-side of decisions (the human in the loop, cognition) and the hard science/modeling (decision science) are both seen as necessary contributors and complementary to the outcome. Presenter/Facilitator: Dr. John R. Black, President of Aragon National Inc., a consulting business specializing in insight generation and related research. A doctoral researcher in the area of data visualization and critical thinking skills, John is currently exploring how sensemaking and complexity affects decision-making in cultures such as law enforcement and the military. Chapter September 2020 Meeting Virtual tools for remote DQ engagement Even before the pandemic required us to work remotely, the tools and platforms available for remote engagement were improving and becoming more widely used. Helping groups reach a high level of decision quality is challenging even when we're in the same room. But with the right tools and right approaches, remote engagement can be more effective rather than less. Troy will demonstrate some of the tools and approaches that SDG uses, and then we’ll discuss alternatives and best practices that others have tried or experienced. |
