Eric Bickel, Univeristy of Texas, Austin
 
Dr. Eric Bickel is Associate Professor and Director of the Graduate Program in Operations Research & Industrial Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. In addition, Dr. Bickel holds a courtesy appointment in the Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering in the Cockrell School of Engineering. Dr. Bickel has been a strategy consultant for 20 years, five of which were full time before returning to academia. He has applied the concepts and methods taught in his courses to major strategic decisions in the following industries: oil & gas (upstream, midstream and downstream), electric power, metals and mining, high tech, life sciences, financial services, packaging and chemicals (commodity and specialty). Dr. Bickel is a Director of Strategic Decisions Group, a leading strategy consulting firm. He is also Past-President of the Decision Analysis Society. . 
 

Ashlee Burke, Intel Corporation
 
Since joining Intel in 2011, Ashlee has held a number of finance roles in the Information Technology and Data Center Groups. In her current role as a decision professional, Ashlee blends her analytical experience with her passion for helping people make better decisions at work and in their personal lives. She is part of a team of decision professionals who assist leaders across Intel in addressing their most significant strategic challenges. Ashlee also contributes to training and coaching Intel employees in all aspects of decision quality. Ashlee holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Montana, an MBA from Willamette University, and a certificate in Strategic Decision & Risk Management from Stanford University. . 
 

Eric Johnson, Bristol-Myers Squibb
 
Eric Johnson is an experienced decision professional with PhD training in decision analysis who has served multiple industries, from the inside and as a consultant. He has a PhD in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford, with a focus in DA. In his first jobs, he used DA approaches to support tactical and strategic decisions at electric utilities. He then worked in DA consultancies, serving clients in pharmaceuticals and oil and gas. In these roles, he developed and rolled out decision analytic approaches to finding value, for use by himself and others. This work led to $100s of millions of value added, and being honored as best DA project by the DA Society of INFORMS in 2001. He now works at Bristol-Myers Squibb, helping teams formulate excellent drug development strategies. He co-authored the Handbook of Decision Analysis from a practitioner's point of view, discussing both the hard and soft skill of DA practice, using both single- and multiple-objective approaches. He is a past Secretary, past Board member and Fellow of the SDP. . 
 

Carl Spetzler, Strategic Decisions Group
 
Carl Spetzler works with top management and boards of directors to improve the quality of corporate decisions. As chairman and CEO of Strategic Decisions Group, he has led numerous client engagements and executive seminars on strategy development, risk management, and decision processes. He is the lead author of Decision Quality: Value Creation from Better Business Decisions (Wiley, 2016). Dr. Spetzler is program director of the Strategic Decision and Risk Management certificate programs at two leading universities. He is a Life Trustee of the Illinois Institute of Technology and chairman of the not-for-profit Decision Education Foundation. In 2004, he received the Ramsey Medal, the highest honor awarded by the Decision Analysis Society of INFORMS for lifetime contributions to the field. He is past president and a fellow of the Society of Decision Professionals. . 
 

Moderators

George Cleveland, Red Hat Corporation

George Cleveland is an internal consultant for Red Hat Corporation, focusing on decision support across a range of software products and industries. Prior to joining Red Hat, George worked for ~8 years at Intel, where he served in finance, corporate strategy and as a decision analyst. During his time at Intel, George worked on a broad variety of decision efforts, ranging from Intel’s supply chain to the Internet of Things. George has a degree in International Relations from UC Davis, an MBA from Notre Dame and is professionally certified in Strategic Decision Making and Risk Management from Stanford University.


Dan Hudson, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC)

Dan Hudson is a Reliability Engineer and Risk Analyst for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC). In addition to advancing the state of practice in probabilistic risk analysis for nuclear power plants, Dan is working to enhance the USNRC’s use of benefit-cost analyses in regulatory applications. Prior to joining the USNRC, Dan served for several years as a Navy Diver and Submarine Warfare Officer. Dan maintains professional certifications in analytics and in public health. Dan received a B.S. degree with summa cum laude honors in Aerospace Engineering from the United States Naval Academy, an M.S. degree in Risk Analysis from the University of Maryland A. James Clark School of Engineering, and a Ph.D. degree in Risk Sciences and Public Policy from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.
